The project comprises of 7 Best Impreza McRae Edition cars; one for each of Colin’s World Rally Championship victories at the wheel of an Impreza Group A. The collection will be completed by an 8th car to commemorate the 1995 World Championship title.
“Continuation Cars” is a philosophy that is well established in the world of motorsport, especially in Britain and some other European countries. Best Engineering has adopted this philosophy and applied it to a project it has been working on since 2018.
The objective is the creation of an exclusive series of Subaru Impreza 555 Group A rally cars. They are faithful in all details and specifications to the cars that were built by the Subaru factory in the 1990s, when they won two Constructor’s World Championships (1995 and 1996) and a World Drivers Championship (1995, with the Scotsman Colin McRae), claiming victory in a total of eleven world championship races.
The Subaru Impreza Group A cars that are made by Best Engineering are built with meticulous attention to detail but with faithful regard to their historic status – using only those modern improvements that are appropriate and where the FIA Rally Group A regulations allow such improvements and upgrades, but without distorting the essence of the car itself. These are not replicas but are cars created to faithfully follow the original specifications and characteristics. A big part of the work to make a rallying car like this is the careful research and attention to detail.
This is possible thanks to the proven specialist experience and skills of the people who have decided to personally engage in this fascinating project. Best Engineering technicians meticu-lously studied and measured some original examples, took thousands of photos of the details, consulted books and other reference material, including meeting some of the people who, at the time, worked on and rallied with the Subaru Impreza Group A.
This national and international team of technicians and suppliers, both for engineering and for the assembly of all components, are united by a long experience in this sector coupled with a deep knowledge of the Subaru Impreza rally world. Among the team is a champion of absolute value – Piero Liatti, former Subaru official driver and winner of the 1997 Monte Carlo Rally – officially in charge of road tests, having also con-tributed by advising on some key choices during project development.
